CO Bill to ban Semi rifles and shotguns moves to senate floor.

So it would be illegal...just reading (and rereading) the bill language, many semi-auto handguns are recoil-operated and don't fall under their umbrella.
Yes, which is my point.... The ruger is illegal. The keltec is legal. The capacity and how they operate is largely the same. No removable magazine on the keltec...

I used my only semiautomatic, gas-cycled detachable box magazine just this past month for my first hunt of ‘25. It’s got a 16” barrel, low recoil and just right for 30yd brush shots and 200yd fields.
I bought this after strong consideration of different bolt action scout-type rifles. Problem with those besides the (over)price is not all came with iron sights or the means to install irons. Heavier recoil and not modular as in changing calibers would be
$ barrel+gunsmith labor and permanent.
So please, Colorado, don’t do a Canada. These MSR platforms are enjoyed by many of us. California and Massachusetts came up with a way to accept these rifles if they have an attached magazine so Colorado can do likewise.

My favorite duck/geese shotgun is the Winchester SX4 semi auto.
My wife and I are contemplating moving to Colorado to join my brother and his family end of the year.
I sure hope you guys n gals shoot this down.

If it passes it may be challenged. Just saw this. Doesn't specifically mention states, but the overall intent is clear.

Yeah. I was thinking about doing a tour of the states with Chukar. My shotgun is a Benelli auto.

You have good taste in guns.

We would love to have you and need more level headed voting sportsman in Colorado, but I wouldn't recommend moving here - Especially on the front range. Way to expensive and liberal!

In a most interesting turn of events, Senator Tony Exum (D-Colorado Springs) is worried about casting a vote in favor of the bill with rumors of a possible recall effort against him.

He is in a competitive swing district. Hunters should recall that Exum cast one of the deciding votes to confirm career anti-hunting activist Jess Beaulieu to the CPW Commission. Exum also voted to endorse Prop 127 as a committee member of the El Paso County Democratic Party, even when the Colorado Democratic didn't take a position and remained neutral. Prop 127 was rejected 53-46 in El Paso county.

I hope he pays a political price for his anti-hunting position and is recalled.

Why not just make the concealed carry permit cover weapons that fall under this bill? The checks performed by the sheriff's office to obtain a CCW are where the vetting takes place.
That would require logic, forethought, and compromise by legislators for a bill about firearms, in Colorado. There is no room for any of that. That same CCW exemption could have applied, and had an amendment to apply, to the 3-day wait period bill. The bill sponsors declined and the amendment was lost.

You want a government to pass up a new revenue stream? They have to make up the difference from doing away with NR OTC tags somehow.
