Pete needs to be in the HOF. Yeah he bet on baseball, but he shouldn’t be shunned… He shouldn’t be in before anyone from the steroids era IMHO

Big Red Machine! The Great 8. My brother has a Reds pennant signed by Johnny Bench. Rose is the best hitter to ever play.

Ted Williams lost multiple seasons which were shorter seasons in his era. He was not injured but rather was active military during war. I like Ted better as a hitter. Ted had more hits, walks and homeruns per plate appearance. Won the triple crown twice and has a higher career batting average and higher single season average of .406.

It's just as dumb as buck weaver still being banned. That poor bastard didn't do anything and still banned 105 years later. Baseball thinks they are so high and mighty get over yourselves for cripes sake.

Same thing with roids...Sammy vs Mark was must see TV they literally would interrupt seinfeld or whatever show was on to show their at bats live. Baseball was dead before that. Baseball should build a shrine for them roid taking players for pumping juice back into the sport!

Great player! But he bet on baseball !
he never bet against his own team. And now gambling is everywhere, pro and college sports would have to go back to the eighties in terms of making money. If I had a son, I would teach him, no matter what the sport, to play that sport like pete rose played baseball. with passion, loyalty, dedication and knowing losing sucks.

A good friend played in the Reds organization during the era of the Big Red Machine. He liked Pete Rose a lot. My friend made it to AAA ball and went to spring training with the Reds for a few times. He and I had many debates over whether Rose should be in the HOF. He said yes, I still say no.

It is a mistake to say he never bet against his team. There is only ONE way, well two, for that to be true. If he bet EXACTLY the same amount EVERY game, for his team to win, then you could say he never bet against his team. The obvious other way is not to bet.

If he bet on some games and not on others, he indirectly is betting against his team. How so? A baseball season is a marathon. If Rose has money on today's game, he may well deplete his bullpen in his effort to win his wager. Then for the next game or two, his team has a poorer chance of winning, and he, knowing that, does not choose to bet on those games.

There are many wrongs that need to be righted before Rose's case is heard. He knew the rules, lied endlessly when first caught, and never offered any sincere apology for his actions.

He was a great player, his lifetime ban lasted his lifetime. I hope that he stays out of the HOF. Would we really want every player betting on their sport? Really?

they all do now. sports betting runs sports. Hall of fame is what you did as player, pete rose played the game every man should to teach his son how to play his sport and compete in life. But i understand, we live in beaurcratic welfare state where we celebrate lawyers and politicians who steal endlessly steal and persecute those who are beneath our beaurcratic rulers. it is bs rose isn't in he hall of fame. If you disagree fine, but there so many politicians that should be locked up....became rich for lying...4of the last 5 presidents, god knows how many slimy congress folks... but mr rose played the game cause he loved the game and played it right.

I can guess which president you are giving a pass.

Pete did not get banned for no reason. Thousands of major league players somehow managed to play their career without getting banned.

Pete bet on baseball when he KNEW he was not allowed to bet on baseball. Then he lied about it, when caught. You can call him a role model. I'll call him a deeply flawed person who was a great baseball player.

Apples and oranges. Steroids gave those guys a competitive advantage. It hurt the guys who weren’t juiced. I enjoyed watching Bonds, Sosa, and McQuire as much as anyone, but keep those guys out of the hall of fame forever.

and you continue to choose failed lawyers to run our country, always giving them a pass. and hold people who earned something and were the best through hard work but made a mistake, i understand why our republic is at the end.

Pete Rose was a great ball player! His hustle was amazing and infectious. Just the energy he put into the game made it fun to watch and made it exciting to want to play the game as a kid!

Rules are to be followed for a reason whether it is gambling, drugs, juicing. Once a standard is lowered then game on for all areas. MLB has lowered its standard many a time and looked the other way especially in the juicing era!

There’s a reason they are holding Pete Rose to an unfair level …… it just hasn’t caught light yet…but it will….maybe??🤔

In my opinion, He should be on the ballot with an ** asterisk by his name as should all of the other perps in the MLB who have questionable situations associated with them.

MLB has changed and lowered its standards and therefore should lower the level of expectations/requirements.

What’s the saying….”Rules for thee but not for me?”

All time leader in hits, games played, plate appearances, runs scored, walks, etc. He was a 17 time Al Star at 5 different positions. I think he belonged in the HOF...
