Carrie Underwood

Such composure to stand there while the tech folk are having a meltdown and failure, and then "take the wheel" and decide to sing without any accompaniment was impressive to me. I was listening live but not watching the video feed, so I thought she was just super slow to get to the microphone, and had no idea that it wasn't supposed to be acapella.
Funny thing. Once you decide it's gonna be a cappella, you own the time and the pitch. It's actually easier, especially if you have practiced a piece a little. You don't have to count or listen to accompaniment queues.

Well let’s hear it, youtube or a reel will be fine.

I'm going to Whitehall, yes Whitehall, to see the new Bob Dylan movie this weekend.
Just chew on what you don't know, or what you think you know.😉

So this took a dangerous tangent off to the country genre of rock and roll. Though I prefer this to inauguration jokes because are people getting more sensitive? Some got all bristly over this more recent fusion of hip hop and country and I’ll concede, it mostly sounds bad. Yet there’s beauty in all music and it’s all rock and roll.

Mississippi Delta blues, late Reconstruction period, came out of black spirituals, work songs, Antebellum era. Banjos and drums, bass washtub. That call and answer we still hear today in rock music reaches further back to West Africa. That delta blues co-evolved along with county which utilized fiddles and bard-like storytelling, went out in all directions and was changed into other styles like Chicago blues and Texas country. Then refinement into jazz took off until 1950s when electric guitar was integrated and oh shit, rock and roll! There have always been borrowed styles, instruments, collaborations and remakes.
And so came Iggy, Ziggy and Biggie. Rock and roll, all of it. Country, funk, alt rock, hip hop, none of it could be so good without risk. It’s challenging the rules and being bold that makes it rock and roll.
