Just wondering if anybody has ever tried grunts, bleats, and/or rattling mule deer??

I called one in this year. Middle of the day I was hiking down a ridge and dropped a couple of hundreds yards off of the north side in some thick stuff. I normally hunt whitetails so I am familiar with calling. I grunted a few times and turned my bleat can a couple of times and this buck came trotting up the mountain. Every time he would stop I would bleat and he would keep coming. He was a mature 4x4, not a monster but a very nice buck. I blew it and he got away.

Ive nearly had doe's run me over blowing a fawn in distress call. Never been able to call in a buck but always have the hope that a group of doe's would have a buck running with them.

A few hunting seasons back I was attempting to rattle in a whitetail buck for my son to shoot. It was mid November and we were set up in the timber. Didn't call in any whitetails. However, a nice four point Muley buck came sneaking in very cautiously. He didn't get shot because Tyler didn't have a mule deer tag.

I called this one in during a December archery hunt with that silly Primos/State Fair noise maker. Not sure it would work all the time, it was a pretty good situation where I saw him with his nose to the ground bird dogging about 200 yards away and then hit the can and backed down the ridge top.

Calling your fart a Primos deer call eh?

Nice meeting you at the ISE today :D

We regularly rattle in mulies during our late season archery rut muley hunts (January) down here in New Mexico. I blew it on the only big buck my father rattled in for me the past couple of weeks. Seems like the bigger bucks tend to hang up just out of bow range like any animal and I typically gett a little too aggresive about 20 minutes into the 80 yard standoffs and blow it... Pretty neat to see and hear them grunting. We do call in a few deer using predator calls, specifically using a rabbit distress call and making it sound like a calf bleat/bawl. The does will come charging in (if and when they come), hopefully with a buck in tow. I don't ever have much luck grunting or using doe bleats for anything other than stopping animals. Likely a result of my poor calling, but it seems like I get more results rattling. No deer for me this year. It seems like our deer population in the Gila is really struggling to hang on with our drought and predation problems...
