California Ban On Gas Powered Cars

But think...If all things were equal and you could.....would you go electric?

I wouldn't turn down a TESLA straight trade for a passenger car.

Assuming range, price, reliability/life expectancy... totally.

Wouldn't be for environmental reasons as we haven't figured out the raw materials or power generation part of the equation yet.

No maintenance is a huge selling point for me, no more oil changes, spark plugs, belts, brakes, etc.

I have my doubts about Subaru (insert whatever car company) being able to bring an EV Outback to market in 2 models.

Don't be so sure of that. Govt chose diesel over coal for navy ships. Churchill was a leader in that for the free world.

Electricity had to be regulated to provide safe & inexpensive power, and chose electric over kerosene to power govt.

Mechanized replaced horse power starting in the first world war, through govt.mandate.

But the creedmore fits. You have that going for you. :p

Consumer laws?

Pretty sure people still ride horses to the bar in Pony... at least one guy I know does/did... and in Jesus boots nevertheless

They do, but horses are not the predominant mode of transportation. When the military chose mechanized warfare over the cavalry, that was gov't making a decision that really put a damper on horse transportation. That effected road constrution, civic planning ,etc - leaving much less room for horses as the primary source of transportation. It may not be a ban, but gov't clearly chose the winner here. So it's gov't interference in the free market through the exercise of procurement orders.

Same goes with choosing electricity for gov't buildings rather than gas or kerosene. It made the scale of electrical generation & production work as opposed to the wildly expensive proposition of having one company run a line to your house, and then you get to pay for it.

I promise not to mock Newsom when he signs the executive order fixing PG&Es mess and in the process building charging stations up and down the state... or converting all the state trouper vehicles to EV... honestly any order that actually does something.

California will be a red state after the war, but Newsome is an optimist. This country is full of folks who want to discuss the color of their next living room recliner while the attic is aflame.

On a related note, I spent a couple weekends bucking firewood with an electric chainsaw this summer, and I believe they are the future of chainsaws.

Funny thing, I agree w/ @VikingsGuy post: This is sound & fury, signifying nothing. But it sets a marker down for others to follow and it empowers climate activists to keep moving forward (as well as shows funders that progress is being made). California is one the largest economies of the world, their actions relative to fuel efficiency, fleet purchases, etc, drive the market. He doesn't need an EO on EV's, he just needs to make his procurement policies match his desires.

There's your free market fix.

NR,,,,question, what electric saw did you use? I have been looking hard at the Milwaukee battery powered saw but have heard mixed reviews. Figured that a battery powered saw would be the cat's meow for a week or two in the wall tent.

I’m not sure the exact model. It was my brother-in-law‘s saw. But it was a Stihl with a 16 inch bar and it ran on batteries, and we cut up quite a bit of lodgepole.

Did the saw have enuf power to chew thru a large log using the full blade?

Guys don’t get derailed with the e-saw talk OK, back to politics! (I actually am making the switch to all battery powered lawn tools for the record...very impressed)

Imagine the good night sleep you’d get at night knowing you stopped 50% of California’s greenhouse emissions in 15 years.

Now imagine you were naive enough to think that the creation of all that electricity needed created no greenhouse emission. Double down on that and pat yourself on the back that that greenhouse gas emission wasn’t going to impact your state because you already passed a fairytale law outlawing gas vehicles. Ugh. What is happening in the world!?

FWIW I spent last elk season using an esaw for a week's worth of firewood, as well as cutting lodgepoles for the wall tent. I used a DeWalt which worked wonderfully. But the batteries struggled in the late season conditions. I would keep that in mind depending when your hunt is

I know of at least a few natural gas compressor stations in the southeast that were forced to install electric drivers for the compressors to help reduce carbon emissions. These compressor stations pump natural gas to the power generating stations and were designed to run only on peak demand days. When the peak demand was met and the call made to fire up one of the electric drive compressors it was straining the electric grid so bad is was causing total brownouts in the area lol.
It was a totally vicious cycle that eventually rendered most of that equipment useless.
I’m sure everyone charging their electric cars won’t strain an already overwhelmed grid in California.

Just bought the Dewalt blower and string trimmer. I have no regrets. However that’s because I hate 2 stroke whine and mixing gas. The mower will always be gas.
