Its been banned for years, now the lions may be getting children, i.e. the 9yr old last summer. Its a story about finding his bones. He was only out of sight 3 min. At their campground he went to the truck to get some cookies.

We kill mountain lions on sight in this state pretty much still, no tags. In fact, some ranches we get kicked off, if we see one and don't shoot.

Oops, I think there's a thread in Friends about this.

Not to sound harsh Tom but you can just add him to the list.
Not gonna get the lion status overturned anytime soon...been there and done that, even DFG wants them hunted again.

Like a lot of other assinine laws it only took a simple majority (was something like 51%-49% thank you So. Cal.) to get their stinking asses protected but will take a 2/3 majority to have the "law/status" reversed. Little chance of that with the city folk carrying the vote.

Like I said on another post...maybe if it was the kid/grandkid of one of our illustrious legislaters |oo

Yes, more and more being attacked, that will get people's attention. Like you say, a famous person would speed it up. 2/3, lots of city people, it will take some good data showing consistent attacks, on people, pets, livestock, etc.

India seems similar. I think they let the lions and tigers kill people, etc. there now?

If I lived there I'd go out "coyote" hunting with a predator call. I might just accidentally mistake one of those big kitties for a coyote when it comes in to the call. Or, I may be forced into shooting a kitty as it attacks me. Somebody needs to do something about it. |oo

No, not really. It would either be an accidental shooting, or killing the cougar to save my own life. I'd like to see them prosecute anybody for that. Especially when the "accidental shooting" is kept quiet. It would be a secret that only the cougar and I would know about. ;)

BTW, does anybody know...is it really not legal to hunt cougars in CA, or is it only illegal to use hounds?

Kinda like "accidently" crossing over from Mexico to the U. S. in search of work. Opps!

It is illegal for anyone to hunt cougars in Kalifornia. The government agents do whack a pile of problem cats every year from what I hear. Sounds a lot like the wolves around here. Doesn't make any sense to me but what do I know.

What is right, is to make the law right. Jeese, people talking about taking the law into your own hands. One Ca buy told me he called in more cats during a spring turkey hunt, than he did turkeys. Data like that ought to help get the law changed, if its true.

Wayne Parcel is the guy credited with passing that ban, isn't he? He's the new head of the Humane Society now, I think. Going to ban all of bow hunting in the US, that's the campaign he's on now, I think.

Get rid of that, like gladiators, its bad stuff. I'm not sure what the argument is, I think it must be wounding animals, unnecessary suffering. Does anybody know?

Yes, and also what is right is not letting the citizens vote on wildlife laws. Here, in WA we are stuck with laws that eliminated baiting and the use of hounds for hunting bears and cougars. Now the cat and bear populations are getting out of hand. It amazes me why we hire state biologists and then don't listen to them and just let the people vote on game laws.
