Burgum headed for Secretary of Interior

Nuclear please
Agree. But we shouldn't confuse two different things- or make them the same, as seems to be the case with the Admin. Oil and nuclear are fulfilling two different needs - one is gasoline prices the other is electrical prices. There is no way to build new plants- nat gas or nuclear - fast enough to meet the increase in electrical demand (driven by data centers). This is why the companies are looking at nuclear for their needs and putting solar panels on every building they can. I envision a time when a large part of our electrical generation is either owned or contractually leased by these companies. When society needs that energy, those companies will leave the average American standing with their d'*k in their hand begging for more. New builds would need to be on public land to increase our claim. Catch 22.

Nuclear please
Now that's funny! What are you going to do with the waste?
It sure seems like states that want nuclear power want to send the waste elsewhere. (n)

Lawmakers say no to storing nuclear waste in Wyoming

Distrust over the federal government’s ability to build a permanent repository played a critical role in committee’s decision to kill controversial ‘temporary’ storage bill.

It’s a lot like feral horses. It’s not a technically challenging problem to solve. Politicians just don’t have the spine to stand up to uninformed and emotional citizens.

I believe the statistic is that All nuclear waste ever generated in the USA could be disposed of in an area inside of a football field.

It currently just sits on concrete containers on site

Maybe uncle Elon can just blast into space?

Here it is. Top photo would be the true waste of we recycled the fuel like France does. Bottom is what it looks currently. Neither is shown in storage containers. I'm not advocating that we ditch anything. I think for national security we should develop and keep each method for energy. However, nuclear undeniably makes sense. For 1-GW nuclear plant you would need 200 square miles of wind turbines or 45-75 square miles of solar panels.

Your off on solar by a factor of 5 or so. Not sure on wind.

Certainly we need more nuclear!

From the water perspective, we're cautiously optimistic with Burgum. There's two main federal dam operators in the west - Reclamation and the Army Corps of Engineers. It was jarring to watch the Corps dump water to 'fight fires' with no regard for state sovereignty, private property rights, or an understanding of the local hydrology. Was that a Hegseth thing, I don't know. But from what I've heard about Burgum, I'm lightly optimistic that that kind of chaos could be contained. There is a lot going on in my river basins that chaos will not help
