Bullet Failure?

Dating myself but Matchkings were the darling of LR years ago. For me long range killing isn't a thing I am interested in anymore. I wised up. mtmuley
I have started using game kings I don’t shoot enough animals for statistical analysis but I like them so far.

I talked to Steve. He’s wondering if the twist rate of my rifle is too slow to stabilize the bullet. It’s a M70 Featherweight I got off Gunbroker so I’ll measure the twist and see if that was the issue.
Is it a factory barrel punched to AI or a custom rebarrel?
If it’s factory it’s probably a 1:10 and not enough twist.

That bullet was going quite fast at 85 yards (probably 2800+) - basically any bullet designed for hunting should be expanding and shedding energy into the target.
Well that’s exactly what I meant by “I’m kinda surprised that happened in your case”. I guess I should have spelled that out.

Glad you were able to recover the moose, actually kind of surprised given the lack of expansion you didn’t have a tough tracking job. While most of our data sets are actually quite small the anecdotal evidence gives me pause with Bergers; Matchkings; any bullet where people say “keep it off the shoulder”. Because sometimes stuff happens, and any bullet with the warning keep the hollow point clean.
Pretty hard to argue with the success of Nosler Partitions, they can be a little finicky to load but most folks can get them down to 1 MOA, the ballistic tips, great deer or antelope bullet. Use to say so on the box… for bigger or stuff that bites kinda hard to argue with swift A frames or Accubonds.

I killed quite a bit of stuff with the game king. Not sure why but I always had gut felling one day I was gonna lose an animal from them. I switched before it could happen.

I’d bet those bullets have probably taken more game than any other animal. They by no means suck just technology has improved
I agree. And I am guilty of moving on. But there is a shitload of misinformation on the web. mtmuley
