In 2018 I committed myself to shedding weight and working way back into physical shape. I gave myself the goal of making it to Everest Base Camp (EBC) in the spring of 2020. Well something came up to postpone my trip but this is the story of doing the trip in 2023.

Day 1 got in a van at 1:00 am for a 4 hour ride to a small airfield in a town called Remeche. It was only 80 kms but the road was so bad it took the long. From there it was a 20 minute flight to Lukla

To begin it was an adventure to just get to Nepal. I drove from Glasgow, MT to Spokane. Spokane to San Francisco, San Francisco to Doha Qatar. Had an almost 24 hour lay over in Doha

Finally got to Kathmandu at 1:30 am and let me tell you I wasn’t in Glasgow Anymore

From Kathmandu took a van ride to an airstrip at Rameche which is an adventure in itself. Only 60 miles but it took 4 hours but thank god it was dark so nobody could see what terrain we drove through. Although it was only a 20 minute flight it was white knuckles . The plane takes off to the south but has to make a 180 to head north. Nothing between the cabin and cockpit so I could hear the alarms squawking, “terrain!!! terrain!!! pull up!!! Pull up!!!” And then “Bank angle!! Bank Angle!!!” Most of the first 10 minutes of flight. Lukla airport has a short runway and you land going uphill and then take off going down hill. I have video but I cannot post it yet.

Day one of the trek was May 2nd, 2023. 8.5 miles from Lukla to Jorselle which is actually 200 feet lower in elevation but the whole day was gaining and losing elevation and it rained all day

uh no plans of ever doing that. I am meeting my girlfriend in Paris for two weeks but I won’t be posting any of those pics either.

Anyone contemplating this journey might want to not search the Lukla landing/takeoff videos.
My pastor is alive because he gave up his seat for a later flight to allow a group to travel together.
