Boot sole replacement

At what point did you guys replace the soles of your mountain boots? My heel treads are not gone, probably an eighth inch left. All knobs are well rounded at this point. I'm certainly getting a lot more slippage than a year ago. But, overall I still have tread life.

I've got four years of solid use out of them so far. No idea of the miles or days. Let's just say it's a lot. They are used all year long. It probably helps that I weigh a whopping 170 pounds.

I change mine on average after about 4-5 seasons of a lot of miles. I gaged it by the lack of traction especially when hauling out animals.

The first 2 seasons after a retread are magical!

I buy a new pair every year but wear them 6-7 days a week I usually wear the heel off and it causes my hips to pull on my back and that’s when I know it’s time for a new pair

I had a pair of boots…12 years old, the leather was still looking good but the sole finally pealed off.

I opted to retire the boots because I wasn’t sure what else would fail.

Somewhere in there is the answer: if the boots are still young and need a resole, not a problem. If the time comes where the boots are old enough to question the rest of the boots, it’s time to replace.

Mine get sent to Dave Page whenever they need it. What they need depends on the boot. If I'm concerned about sole separation or if they are worn or cut to the point I have concerns about use. Hard to say when that is other than whenever they need it. Would you keep tires on your car with tread even if they don't hold the road?

Sent a pair of Lowa's in for new soles and rands. Got them back with new laces,insoles and leather conditioned.
Worth it for some very comfortable daily use boots. 5 years and the best.
Trying the new Hardscrabble Kenetrek's. Will be sending the old Grizzly pacs in for new soles soon.
