Anybody here ever camped in the Black Hills? Trying to put together a multi-family trip for July, would prefer fishing options and trees. Side trips to the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore areas have been mentioned...

Thanks!

Tons of camping and fishing spots.
As mentioned, Custer is very nice. It’s fairly busy, but that’s what you get in peak season. Otherwise there are a handful of different FS campgrounds as well, a few on reservoirs. Pactola, Deerfield, Sheridan. Good fishing at all of them and the tail waters as well. Reservoirs have trout, pike, bass, perch, etc. Tail waters just trout.
Make sure you book out well in advance. They fill up quickly.
Also, there is a large highway construction project on 385, so plan accordingly. I believe they’re carrying traffic on one side with a pilot car.

We have stayed in the Game Lodge cabins four times now in CSP. Other than having a rattler under the deck this year, we’ve obviously loved it.

We saw a bunch of trout out along the Spearfish Canyon byway, and the reservoirs and lakes around Custer are decent spots to try, too.

I’ve also hunted out there a few times and just pick a spot in the NF.

DM me if you want more info on the whole area, been out there a dozen times now
