My brother and I are trying to decide when to go to Canada to hunt bears over bait. We will use an outfitter. My question is, should we go in the spring or fall? Is the meat quality better in one versus the other? How about hide quality? What province do you prefer? Thanks for your help.

I went in early June near the end of the spring season, and saw some evidence of rubbed hides. Should you want the meat, make sure you talk with the outfitter as you are arranging your hunt. We sent the hide to a Canadian taxidermist recommended by the outfitter, and were told that splitting up your meat and hide is a no-no coming back to the states.

A 7 foot bear just out of his den will probably go 200 pounds in northern Alberta. In the fall he might come close to double that.

2 bear were allowed. No worries about grizzly bear confusion, opportunity for a wolf, six footer is considered small up there.

I prefer eating fall bear but I think best chance at a big bear is spring. Big bears never seem to rub I shot one June 29 last year and it wasn’t rubbed

I like spring hunts because it breaks up the year and gives me something else to bowhunt. Fall is already busy usually busy with other planned hunts

Any idea on price? Can't find it on their website.

I've reached out to Jason, son in law to Steve Overguard who is the outfitter and have not heard back yet. I do know that there is a large fire going in the hunting zone, and they might have to pull hunters out of the more remote hunting areas.

Go for spring, much better time to be chasing blackies if you're not scared of skeeters and ticks!

Come spend your money in Saskatchewan.

I've got a couple of buddies that live in Saskatchewan that have been trying to get me to come bear hunt with them. I know the "pandemic" made access a lot harder. Has that stuff changed? I would love to go up there next spring.
