Here’s something from OL that provides a summation that everybody is correct. It is a wolf. It is a coyote and may likely be more the latter than the former. It is a dog, though that was from the way back time of manifest destiny. Nobody would disagree that the eastern coyote is the larger bodied subspecies and this article is separating that thing into a distinct category of canid. Take that further and we could say that the gray wolves extirpated from Illinois were only temporarily away and the red wolf in Virginia was never really gone.The animal with the fawn hindquarters looks like it might be nursing some pups. Hard to say for sure from the pics, but if it is a wolf there may be a few more.
