Best Muzzleloader (Colorado) for Elk!!!

Straight from the Regulations:
"only open or iron sights allowed in muzzleloading season"
I've asked a hunter ed instructor and he said peep sights are NOT open sight and not legal in Colorado... might want to call parks and wildlife to avoid problems in the field.

Peep sights are legal

I think CO has a restriction on the ratio of bullet diameter to length. Might be worth checking before select the bullet as some will not be in compliance. I had to remove the plastic "nose cone" to make my bullets legal on a deer hunt there 5 years ago. Law may be different now.

The law has changed, it no longer matters.

I have a CVA MR NITRIDE.

While I did not shoot an an elk with it in Colorado in 2016, If I had, it would have died.

Its a sweet gun.

Check them out.

In all honestly, I have a CVA Wolf and the thing shoots lights out. You can get a "starter pack" with Powerbelt bullets, a speed loader or two, and maybe some powder and cleaning stuff for like $200. That gun shoots great out to about 100 yards! The only thing that I really hate about it is the sights. But they can be upgraded easy enough.

I'm not super into muzzleloader hunting and have never killed anything with it, but I have shot it quite a bit. It'll kill anything just as well as any other 50 cal muzzleloader. The Powerbelt bullets are really easy to load and I've never had a misfire with whatever granular powder I have and winchester 209 primers.

For backcountry hunting the removable breech plug is very nice. It made changing my powder daily very easy. (This may be unnecessary but I still do it...)

I bought my wife a CVA wolf as well and it's a great little rifle. Good price, good shooter and I love the easy to remove breech as well.

Super easy. Cleaning a muzzleloader can be a huge PITA. But this one I can just unscrew the plug by hand, pop the barrel off, and soak the entire barrel in soap and warm water. Maybe not the most kosher way to go about things, but it sure is slick.

Purty rig robie....thanks for the rundown, i'm researching ML's.

Thank you. It was difficult to figure out what all I needed to order. I wanted to make this easier for the next guy.

It's amazing how accurate these guns are with open sights.

Thor Bullets -

That's your best setup IMO. My gun didn't like Thors. But everyone elses in the group shoots them very well. You wont believe the the penetration you can get from them. I have Killed 3 bulls with 300 or 338 grain powerjunks over 120 of pyrodex select. They work but usually come apart.

Sorry to revive an old thread. Just piecing together my new Ultralite and purchased these parts.

Marble Arms Front Ramp (Mfr Part: 072310)

Lyman Front Sight (Mfr Part: 3171076)

but the Lyman front sight dovetail is flopping around in the marble ramp. Did you shim it?

Fella hasn't been around in about 9 months

Dang. Okay well I contacted both manufacturers via email so hopefully I can resolve my issue that way. Thanks.

Don’t think it will be too tall? I’ll have to look up size of the holes/ spacing. I know they make em for cva but no listing for knight Ultralite

Just in case anyone is wondering Marblearms got back to me and said this “Our ramps have a .010” bigger dovetail then Lyman’s dovetail. So, the Globe will not fit our front ramp. It will slide thru the ramp.”

so going to try a Williams ramp.
