Best .308 parent case cartridge

You pretty much need to handload to get any cartridge to max accuracy.
Some guns will shoot a certain factory ammo well. But usually not all of them.

As far as the 308 being "best", i'm not sold.
Anyone that has shot 308 & 30-06 extensively will tell you they are not the same.
Also at longer ranges (500 yards plus) the 7mm-08 and even the 260 Rem will have more velocity and energy for simular weight bullets than the 308.

Ballistically I probably like 260AI or 7/08AI but for SAAMI chamberings 308 or 7/08 take the cake. If for nothing else, there isn’t any competition readily available in the same bore size and case capacity in a short action. 260 was made obsolete by the man bun and 243s are never twisted right and the mini manbun is also gaining traction with better bullets for barrels twisted appropriately.

I'd have to say 243win is my favorite, yes I realize it's limited, but mine is extremely accurate to the ranges I use it, which is max at 300 yards. For up to deer sized game it does just fine. Although I would personally choose a different caliber, I know a few who have successfully used the 243 on black bear and a few I know who have used it on elk as well.
