WTF is up with apologies lately? Everybody and their brother is "demanding apologies" from people. Someone recently demanded an apology from the Pope, and got it. Someone else is demanding an apology from some school board for disciplining their child, and isn't getting it. Others are demanding an apology from Bush for one thing or another. What good is an apology, really? When my mom made my brother apologize to me as a kid, I knew he did it because she made him, not because he had a change of heart. I'd go so far as to say that the majority of apologies aren't sincere and are worthless. So why, suddenly, is it all the vogue for people to "demand public apologies" from other people? What good is it?

So ends today's "Beef of the Week."

A parent is depanding a school to apologize for disipline? What kind was it? I mean like a "time out" sort of thing or something way worse than that, like a spanking? I agree with you though that most apologies are not heart felt and sincer. But maybe the one from the Pope was, but from Bush I doubt it, and if the school was forced to apologize then I highly doubt that that would be heart felt. People these days if they can't get a lawsuit they'll be trying something else.
Quick Draw

Here you go, Quickie:
quote:
Lafayette, Louisiana-AP -- A school board in Louisiana is refusing to apologize.

School officials punished a boy after he told a classmate that his mother is gay.

The school board now insists that the boy wasn't being punished for using the word "gay" -- and that the punishment was actually the result of behavioral problems.

But a form that Marcus McLaurin brought home from school last month said that his use of the word "gay" was the reason for his punishment.

His mother complained to the A-C-L-U, which demanded an apology.

The board voted last night that it was "never the intent or purpose" to discipline the child for using the word "gay." The board offered no further explanation.

The A-C-L-U calls the board's action "revisionist history" -- and says a lawsuit is still being considered.

AZHunter: Ha, ha. It is to laugh.

the boy told his classmate that his mother was gay in a private conversation that his teacher just overheard. he was not disruptive at all in the classroom, and according to (Rush) was made to write the word Gay on the blackboard a few times. the boy did not have a problem with it at all because his (mothers) explained it all to him. unfortunatly, the other little boys parents did not. there in (LIES) the rub. GUESS HE WAS NOT POLITICALY CORRECT

HEHE, You know me, Alwas mad at everything (Or nothing actually)

Good topic, I think there should be less interaction from the "THEY SAID" group to, I remember our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. If we did something we took the responsibility and Didn't blame Parents.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law. Or the teachers, or the parent down the street.

Not only did we know right from wrong we'd be held to it. NOW, every Tom Dick and Harry don't only need to NOT say Sorry (If they do they don't mean it) but it is an Empty word. And there is always an Excuse behind it.
