I would recommend that your family down south take precautions in their place for bed bugs too.

When we come home from any vacation all laundry is done IMMEDIATELY when we get home as in walking in the door and ALL clothes go from the luggage into the laundry room. Never put your luggage on your bed after a trip I so far have never had them from any trip thank goodness. Hope all goes well for you.

The other issue of getting rid of bed bugs, is not necessarily the living creature but the eggs. The only way to get rid of them is by heat and typically, it has to be hotter than 140f.

Just getting back from a trip. Not gonna lie, reading this thread was one of the worst things I could have done while in a hotel.

2 back to back nights of dreaming bed bugs were biting me.

Having a good flashlight for inspecting hotel rooms I find helpful when travelling. I always take off my work shoes and leave them outside my front door (I have a covered porch). Also, I inspect the shoes and my pant hems after working in apartments, before entering my house.
