The common popular caliber sidearm nowadays seems to be the 10mm semi. for grizzly and black bear. Personally, I carry a .45 colt revolver.

Being under gunned like that can get you killed really fast.
When I carting a varmint round like that I make sure I have my helpers with the big guns

Excellent reply, thank you for that insight. While I do believe that the .44 magnum would be plenty of power for a bear, a .357 has a lot less recoil and has proven to be effective. All of the research I have done would suggest that the ammunition availability is far better for the .357 as well.

Yes, we drone-mounted aerial sprayed our campsite with Counter Assault and no bears appeared at all.

Still nervous about the spray shelf life, I did sleep with a sawed-off ten guage in a quick draw shoulder holster ... for added deterrent. 'Proved to work well, although not much sleep.
