Lawnboy got me thinking when he asked Randy about reimbursing him for shipping costs. I doubt Randy is going to ask, or even accept, people's money to cover the cost of shipping these prizes, some of which are quite expensive, all over the country. So...I thought it might be a neat idea to donate a few bucks towards an organization that supports the kind of hunting most of us enjoy taking part in each fall. What do you guys think about prize winners (or anyone for that matter) throwing a couple bucks to the RMEF or the Mule Deer Foundation for all of Randy's efforts? Since there's several weeks worth of prizes, it seems like a good chance to collect a nice little chunk of change. I'd be more than willing to throw a couple dollars in the pool after bookending this gig with another Montana boy taking home a MR pack. If it's something folks wanted to do, it would be nice to find a way to track how much the group donated as a whole without singling people out if they don't have the funds to contribute. Any ideas or suggestions?

Yeah, donate to Rep. Bill Harris, R-Mosby, he doesn't support I161 either.;)

Damn, teach me to vote against an initiative. :D

That's a cool gesture Dunc. As you said, I am not taking any money for shipping, but if others wanted to make a contribution to those conservation groups, I would not protest.

Sounds like a good idea mdunc, I would be down to donate some. I'll keep looking to see if or when we get it all organized.

I contacted the Mule Deer Foundation and they said it wouldn't be problem tracking donations made in Randy's name. If you win a prize (or even if you don't) and would like to make a donation, send a check to Mule Deer Foundation, 1939 South 4130 West, Ste. H, Salt Lake City, UT 84104 OR call 1-888-375-DEER (3337). Make sure to include a note or tell them that you're donating in Randy's (Newberg) name. That way we can call after I win the last prize, which I think is another Mystery Ranch pack, to see figure out the grand total.

Again, this wasn't Randy's idea, although he did suggest the Mule Deer Foundation if people felt like they wanted to donate. I approached him about doing it, so don't think he's trying to weasel anything out of you after luring you in with some sweet prizes.

Thanks mdunc, for researching that. It is a great idea for a way to contribute a little when we are given the opportunity for so much. I'll make that call soon.

I don't know how the mule deer foundation divies up funds and stuff but i would be much more inclinded to support the Montana Chapter of the MDF rather than the general pool.

Maybe it all goes to the same pocket but if not, maybe look into the Montana chapter first?

I was just going with what Randy offered up when asked where he would like to see the money go if we were to do this. Since we're redirecting money that should otherwise go to him, I'd like to see it go where he suggested. Also, there's people from all over the country who frequent the site and it might be wise to pick an organization that benefits the most people rather than only those who hunt Montana. I know Montanans probably make the major constituency on HT, but as it stands now, there's only three of us in line to draw prizes. Those are only my thoughts. I'll go with whatever brings in the most coin while supporting OYOA's message.

why not donate to OYOA??? Big Fin how do we do that--then he can either use it towards the show/website or donate it to the mule deer fdn or rmef or ????....chris

not even as a donation??? Big Fin is this true that you don't want donations from us to help the cause????

Yup. As generous as such gestures are, I really am not comfortable taking donations from anyone. If you are inclined, I would ask that you make a donation to RMEF or MDF or DU on behalf of OYOA, or some other nominee.

I think Dunc actually set something up where that can be done.

This entire process is me wanting to show the Hunt Talk crowd how much I, and our sponsors, appreciate all of you. Taking donations just wouldn't seem proper.
