Barn Finds and new rifle justification, so to speak

My mom passed and perfect Ethan Allen high end furniture sold for almost zero. Hummels, lladro, framed litho prints are worthless. New, 200k, estate sale 10k, and they took 50%. If you buy new furniture it is worthless when you walk out of the store. We are now selling 60 elk, Deer, lion mounts to a wholesaler, almost as bad price.
antiques are worth almost nothing theses days.

Fair point. As it’s the only bathroom in the house, I suppose I should deduct 50%.
This will fit the bill.

Definitely above high school woodshop class work there, so the new rifle should be above run of the mill

So, say, hypothetically, that my wife just decided on a $17K bathroom remodel….how much rifle does that entitle me to?

I'd say wait until the job is done. Generally, bathroom remodels go through 7 or 8 redesigns between the demolition and the finish work. This will be a better indicator of what kind of firearm, or firearms, you will be able to purchase.

But, since this is the only bathroom, you should consider your usage, and comfort and deduct that from the final.

So, about $8-10K

Wife math - you need to deduct at least 75% in order to ensure there isn't an argument in which you likely wind up and settle at probably a 85% deduction. Don't worry, a $4200 rifle setup budget is not too shabby.

Mrs. Harley found this Bombay chest at an estate sale on the third day of markdown...
@mdcrossbow
Pricing on these are all over the board. $900- $5K FOR repros. The period ones are easily spotted due to the old glues giving up the ghost so to say. Veneers popping all over. Many repairs. I've done my share of restoing them.
This looks to be in great shape. so to answer your questions about $1,400 for this one.

We have completely different definitions of "barn find"...I thought it was going to be an old square body truck, a shovel head basket case, Envinrude Fastwin, or maybe a Trans Am with t-tops.

You’re forgetting this is a bathroom remodel. That 8-10k in the rifle budget will be eaten up by cost overruns. You’ll be lucky to score a brick of shotgun ammo with a bathroom remodel.

I'm in the finishing throes of a bathroom AND basement remodel...a fair amount of which I've done myself.

My price is a WY elk tag for this fall...and I did go to AK last fall so I guess I'm getting mine in installments.

So I'd say a pretty damn nice rifle...Like @p_ham nice.
