I was out scouting this weekend. I saw lots of deer and many bucks. Two or three bucks in particular have the potential to be really great deer. Unfortunately I didn't get pics of them! I did see quite a few does with twins which tells me they wintered well.

I also learned baby porcupines are jet black and hard to see walking out at night. Here are some various pics from this weekend.

Sweet pictures, seems like pretty unique muley country. Can't wait to see what you put a hole in this year.

Greenhorn,

I was wondering how long it would take to get a comment on the second picture!

In looking at these pictures again, the ones I took through the spotting scope didn't turn out as well as I would have liked. I am headed back out in two weeks and will get better pictures.

Wow, still good 'n green for this time of year!

I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to chase badlands muleys this year or if I'll just be hunting around the farm for whities in the east part of the state. I sure do miss deer camp in the grasslands.

I was not able to make a trip out to SD bad lands this year so I'm just enjoying your pic's. Any white tail out there. Thanks

mdcrossbow,

There are actually quite few whitetails, especially this year. The bucks are usually pretty scarce where I hunt, but when you find one odds are it's a good one! I will be out there this weekend and hope to have more (and better) pictures.

I posted my last message twice by accident. Feel free to remove.

Great looking pics to me. Sure would like to hunt that part of the country someday. Does a non resident have a snowball chance in hell to draw?

So happy!

I was so worried I wouldn't find any crazy Mule Deer freaks when I moved back to ND. God Bless ya Greg!

Ridge Runner,

Check out the resources section and look into ND for for information. The down and dirty is that non-residents can realistically bowhunt mulies in ND every year. Getting a NR rifle tag for whitetails is quite easy. Getting a NR rifle tag for mulies can be difficult, but I know more than a few who have drawn quality tags in the Badlands. Shoot me a message any time and we can discuss ND tags further.

Aaron,

We are glad to have you in ND. It's been great getting to know another serious big game hunter. Besides it's difficult having a conversation with most MT folk. I have to talk so slowly and use small words. They also seem to have a penchant for large, smelly women with few teeth. To each their own! :hump::D
