Backcountry water sources (let’s see em)

I seriously appreciate this thread. It’s helped this midwesterner anyway lol. I’ve been skeptical of some of the water where I was camping.

I scooped a jetboil cup of water for coffee out of this river years ago. Boiled it, threw in my coffee, and immediately spit out a large boiled leech. That same summer I got campylobacter from drinking from a tiny unfiltered creek way up high in the alpine.

I have drank gallons and gallons of water out this creek, by our family cabin.

When I was in high school my buddies and I drank from this instant and artesian creek, which, possibly related to at-the-time illegal activities, we named Cottonmouth Creek. As you can see it’s not that impressive, but I remember sipping it straight off the rocks, and I still visit it often.

I have been too liberal with drinking wild water without purification many times in my life, but so far it has not bit me. Potentially related to fortifying my guts through many trials by fire via gravy and alcohol fueled alchemy.
