My buddy and I are one point below max for AZ deer and seriously considering burning points this year, as we have drawn only one other tag for a Sept elk hunt. Dates seem a little later than typical? Curious to get some thoughts. We are thinking of maybe 12B. Anyone been on any of the 12 late hunts lately? We are nonresidents. Thanks.

I know this is late but hey better late then never.
1st off bonus points don't mean crap.,, the only thing they do is give you extras try's

I got drawn for a 13(don't know which one yet) tag this year and I hadn't put in for 5 years LMAO
been drawn for 3 lope tags in 5 years all rifle all the same unit
one of the kids are going to have a blast.

everything above the rim is personal preference on late or early hunt and what unit, there all good. they have both resident deer and migrating deer. depending on the weather,.
I been hunting them on only those units sence 1982.

Bonus points may not be as relevant for residents, but are very relevant for nonresidents like me. No way I would have drawn with one less than I had. The 20% pass rule makes virtually all the NR hunts distributed by preference, not bonus. We ended up drawing this year for unit 12AW late with 15 points.

for non res they don't make a difference either, there still going to draw 20%(think its 20%). I know quite a few non res that have gotten tags on there 1st time drawing, even met a few that have drawn a year apart..

That's cool you got a late hunt in 12aw hunt rattlesnake canyon (border) where it goes into the grand canyon)

so basically you want the most south west point of 12aw theres some pretty big deep canyons with rim rock around them get on the top and start glassing. its mixed juniper and sage.
if there is snow on the ground start at the beginning of rattlesnake ( which is the start of the big springs road from Jacob lake) and hike the canyon the canyon starts off small and gets big. . that road which is paved also goes to ferdonia and the snow gate is just above the canyon about 20 yards.

when is snows they all run down that canyon and along the edges and disperse across the sage and other fingers.
If you happen to catch it on the very 1st big snow fall, you will see hundreds of deer moving down that canyon its a pretty cool site. I have only seen it 2 or 3 times reminds me of a salmon run back in 80s in Washington state.

if I get the 13a tag I will be hunting on the other side.

Think were going to be up there the same day. I had forgot I put in for 12b. I think it was my 4fth pick.
Deer Draw Successful 01017 Oct 25 - Nov 03, 2013 UNIT 12B 000003

But I am going to be hunting on the cliffs and mesa that overlook page and lake powell ie north east side of unit 12b.
I have a few spots that I am going to check out on the south west side of the units as well.

. if your there the same time we can hook up and say hi. I should be there a week before the hunt a and till the last day.
