is there a way to apply for an Arizona antlerless tag without using up your bonus point with a successful draw? not applying this year but considering doing an antlerless hunt in a couple years but don't want to lose the built-up points to do so

F. With the exception of a permanent bonus point awarded for hunter education and a loyalty bonus point which is accrued and forfeited as established under subsection (L), a person’s accumulated bonus points for a genus are expended if:
1. The person is issued a hunt permit-tag for that genus in a computer draw;
2. The person fails to submit a Hunt Permit-tag Application for that genus for five consecutive years; or
3. The person purchases a surrendered tag as prescribed under R12-4-118(F)(1), (2), or (3).

Nah you're good with the leftovers but good luck getting one. The leftover list has been getting smaller every year and there is a reason why nobody wants those tags in the draw.

An antlerless tag will burn your points the same as a bull tag if you draw it as any of your choices. As others have said, the leftover list or an OTC is the only way to acquire an Elk tag without burning points in AZ.
Leftover list is slim pickings- the only way to get one is to mail a paper app which is first come first serve- so you basically mail it in over the weekend to get there on Monday and pray you are one of the first ones they open from the pile.
OTC is a crap shoot unless you are a resident who can spend the whole year scouting. These tags are for zones they want to manage for zero elk.

Nope. Others have covered most of it. There are usually about 100 left over elk tags and over 1000 people mail in an application.
