Are butter-smooth actions overrated?

You mean like these guys?

There is a Krag at the 13:30 mark and numerous places through out if you are interested enough to watch it all. These guys know how to throw a match and shoot.

My understanding of that discipline is they were limited to a strict few former service rifles to keep it from becoming an expensive rifle race. Krags and k98s were primary candidates. They made the sauer 200 the one modern rifle to standardize that offering too likely because the aging original options might be becoming less available/economical to use for competition? Wonder what sauer had to do to get that deal?

I'll try to get a pic today. Fun as Hell to shoot. My Grandfather even saved the brass. All I need is dies. mtmuley
I forgot to mention, I use Lee dies for mine. I would almost say they are better than other brands, though often looked down upon. You can probably buy them from Lee on line. Yup, they are even in stock. Get the full set with the factory crimp die. Cannot beat their factory crimp die.

It is a pretty cool competition. Their targets and the use of the tournament bracket system makes for a compelling game. And look at that audience and cheering and on and on. Amazing to me.

I shoot in national and international competitions all the time and I have seen absolutely nothing like this. I wish I had known of this when I lived in Oslo for a year. I would love to have attended to watch.

Here is another match. If you want to see a woman that can really shoot, watch for Jenny Stene. Particularly around the 27 minute mark.

Note that every one is shooting irons. Inconceivable in the US.

Outstanding. She can hold her own can’t she?

My middle daughter is trying to figure out where she wants to go in the shooting sports. She’s about to graduate 4H BB, and does really well at it, but doesn’t seem too intrigued by air rifle all of a sudden. We have a friend who shots collegiately in air rifle and small bore, but it’s something that is difficult to get into in our area without a huge commitment of time and money. She shot the 308 out to 400yd this past summer and I think that she got bit by wanting to shoot something a little “stronger” at longer distances

I know a decent handful of people whose kids have gone to college on shooting scholarships. And many girls as boys. It is a great opportunity for anyone that likes to shoot shotguns or rifles.

If your daughter likes longer range stuff, the BPCR silhouettes out to 500 meters are a true blast (pun fully intended). Nothing is more satisfying that watching a ram tip over way out there. And so is the true long range stuff out to 1000 yds. We see a number of youngsters get involved and shoot really well. As long as it is fun, they excel. There are so many different shooting venues these days, it can be hard to decide which way to go. Your local opportunities and your personal interests will probably govern what you do more than anything, but you can travel to shoot as well, and many families do. From the Taylors of Texas to the McDonalds of Australia, and many in between, they have all converged on matches and passed the competitive shooting tradition from one generation to the next.
