Heading to Orlando in the morning for a couple weeks of work. I'm not looking forward to the humidity but since I'm not taking the family along for any Disney outings I may try and get a trip in for tarpon. Sounds like the fishing hasn't been too bad and a 100 lb. + tarpon has always been on my bucket list.

Anybody here with advice or recommendations on a guide would be appreciated.

My cousin did a cool gator hunt a couple years back in Florida. Very reasonably priced and he shot a nice one with his bow. Not sure if that would fit into your schedule but I could get you the contact info if needed.

If for whatever reason I ever have to go to Florida, I wouldn't leave until I killed a gator. Seems like the most fun you could ever have in a boat with some dude named Bubba.

I agree on the gator hunt. Would love to take one of those, was just assuming that the middle of July wasn't the right time. Will do a little research and if it looks promising I'll ask for the info. Thanks guys.

August 15th on the Gator opener....

so that won't fit your time line.....

Tarpon fishing has been good so far this season with lots of bait and lots of fish on the beach anywhere from Jacksonville to Sebastian and if you are in Orlando you're no more than a couple of hours from several good spots...

I haven't fished with a Guide in that area and can't recommend one with certainty but a good number of them post on the Florida Sportsman, EAST CENTRAL REGION, website and I'm betting that you'd find what you were looking for on that site with just a little time spent.....

Good Luck....

Steve

My cousin went in August with Switch Grass Outfitters. Talk to Seth. Number is 407-448-9069. 9-foot plus gator is pretty doable supposedly.

Thanks for the help guys. I looked into it and was going to try for a fishing trip on the weekend but the work part of the trip ended up consuming my spare time. Looks like a big gator and a huge tarpon will remain on my "to do" list for a little longer at least.

Though I did have enough time to play a couple rounds of golf out the back door of the hotel. There, I was able to find several 4 to 7 foot alligators to practice my croc hunter antics on. Learned that those things sure can move fast when they need to and they'll dang near whack a golf club out of your hand with their tail if you get it too close. :)
