Antelope...Lets See Them!!!

With a 51 page thread that started 13 years ago, I'm not sure if I have posted on it or not.

I drew my first antelope tag back in 1971 and shot a buck in Northwest Colorado. He became my first taxidermy mount, and is still on my wall along with 6 others. Hunting them now I look for the first legal buck so I won't be tempted to have him mounted.

I've since also hunted antelope in Wyoming and for the first 20-30 years that I lived in Montana I drew 1 or 2 tags almost every year.

This first pic is at our local range with me shooting Skeet low house 8 with a few antelope grazing by, not 50 yards away.

This is my sons first antelope. He would go on to shoot many more including elk. lucky I brought a back up gun, as his kimber wasn’t working correctly. I messed with the trigger to make it lighter and the firing pin wasnt hitting the primer fully. What this caused was a slow burn in primer. The gun fired 5 seconds after pulling the trigger. It did this twice. I ran back to the truck and got my buddies .308 sniper rifle. Wyoming.

It was our both our first times hunting antelope this year! We have archery only tags so we took a trip up north and spent the last 2 1/2 days chasing goats. Seen a ton of good bucks but they were very smart and also kinda witty. They’d tease us with broadside shots and then spin and flip while we drew/shot.. one ducked a (money shot) 90 yard arrow just low enough to let it pass over his back. We realized quickly we shouldn’t be too picky and that any antelope with a bow was gonna be a tricky trophy. On the final night my brother in law took this buck at 70 yards, gotta full pass thru. Not big but we were all super happy to see some archery success.

First lope i ever shot in nevada let alone at 10k feet! Poor mans sheep hunt and absolutely most challenging and favorite antelope hunt i have ever done. Never worried about cliffing out, thermals and rocks falling alerting antelope before was a unique kind of fun.

Got my 2021 antelope back today. I think Chris did a nice job. Need to find a better place to hang him. I’m sure the wife will have a better idea when she gets home.
