That’s pretty disheartening. Relative to the crime that’s barely any penalty at all.

How does that work? Poach 2 elk, leave to waste, lie about it, and lose one year of hunting privileges as a punishment???

He likely had a very skilled (and expensive) attorney that managed to negotiate a good deal for him.

Regardless of defense attorney the states attorneys that are involved in poaching cases need to grow a pair and at least carry the maximum charges thru too the end, all to often, some, not all states attorneys will cave and take the easy way out to clear the board and move on by plea deals. Take it to the end and let the judge or jury decide the final outcome. Thats what are judicial system was set up for. What was disturbing was Ms. Juarez's reply at the end of the article, wow thats one that puts all of us in the poachers party, she's the one that votes against hunting and gets all her card playing friends to do the same.
