Andy Rooney needs a good strong rope

Tim, what exactly do you disagree with in the commentary? Just the part about the soldiers not being heros, or the whole thing? I think there's a lot of truth in that piece, whether or not you agree with Rooney about supporting the troops. I don't agree with the idea that we shouldn't support the troops with positive messages, but most of the rest of it sounds about right to me. He's mostly curious about how they feel, not about how we feel. Don't you wonder even a little bit about how the soldiers feel, or are you of the opinion that it doesn't matter, because they all volunteered? Not trying to start a pissing match, just curious about how you feel.

Having served for 22 years, 4 of which were as a reservist, I think Andy is full of BS. I "joined to serve". I went through the Viet Nam thing and the first Gulf War. It is what we do. We were warriors and war was our business. We were good at it and proud to do it. I'm sure there are a some that don't want to do what they are having to do but most know their business and don't mind doing it. Mr. Rooney makes some valid points on the political side but he is way out there in the cosmos when it comes to the military professionals on the front lines. These troops know that their leadership is commited to winning and that they are winners. Screw Rooney!

I can say one thing for sure. There are many in the U.S. that don't see the military as ever being heros. Well not in ours, or our grandfathers life time any way. They neither have the stomach to do for their country that which they so easily take for granted. Critics are more than a dime a dozen. They are every where, they are in any one that doesn't agree, but a Hero is some one that has the fortitude to plow on ahead and do what is needing to be done at that moment with out reflection and empty lip service... ;)

I think I have a serious problem with those people that signed up for the Guard units and then whine and complain about having to be called up. Those people sucked money out for so many years to have extra money and now they don't want to live up to their end of the bargain. If you didn't want to go to war you should not have signed on the dotted line. I do not feel that this represents the majority, or even a high number, but it is the few that are the ones that get on TV. I feel that you should support ANYONE fighting to defend this country. if you do not agree with why they are there, SO WHAT. You should still support them. After all, the whole reason you can complain is because of people like that. The whole reason Mr Rooney can continue to criticize people he doesn't like is because of soldiers who fought for him to do so. Oh well, too much to go on.
