Hey Everybody,

On my first podcast with Randy we talked a lot about a self-guided drop hunt I did with my Dad in Alaska.

Here's Part 1 of that series:

http://orioncoolers.com/diy-alaskan-caribou-hunting-adventures-part-1-getting-there/

all the way to Part 8:

http://orioncoolers.com/diy-alaskan-caribou-hunting-adventures-part-8-flying-out/

Part 8 has links to Parts 1-7 as well.

These articles cover everything from planning to packing to transport to the hunt to getting meat and ourselves home. Any questions, please post here and happy to try to answer.

I remember listening to the Podcast Damon and man did it paint an awesome pic in my head as to what it was like!

I have been dying to get back up off the haul road on a bou adventure. That country is freaking awesome. Maybe next year I can put another boy trip in the books.

Wow! I have to say that was one of the most enjoyable things I have ever read! It was inspiring to the point where I was finding myself daydreaming about going on an Alaskan caribou hunt while reading! Very good story and now I have an incredible urge to head north from my home in North Dakota. Great hunt and again Great Story!! Thank you for sharing it!

Fun!

TAG bags are synthetic and some Alaska hunters prefer cotton bags because
they breathe better for better crusting.
For example:
Game Bags For Alaska Hunts

Something to consider for Carbou hunts which start Aug 10 in Alaska...can be pretty warm sometimes.

The worst possible game bags are the cheesecloth style bags that is commonly sold in Alaska stores
like Fred Meyers and Walmart...fly eggs will penetrate and you can end up with meat infested with fly maggots!

I really enjoyed reading about your great adventure with your dad!

Thank you

I am no longer with Orion and sorry that the website was pulled down and all of my articles were lost. So instead yesterday I made a video of my hunt. Hopefully it will still be helpful to some and I'll work on finding a new site to host the 8 part article series

Hey Damon, Wondering if you've had any luck finding a spot to drop your 8 part blog? Starting to plan one for next year for my father-in-laws bucket list hunt for his 60th and trying to dig up any tips that we can get.

I haven't found a spot for the blog posts yet, just made that video linked above.
