Alabama deer 2024

Not going to lie…things are looking real good. I just had six does feed out into the open. A little but very interested 8 came out and chased them all over the place. He was not a shooter but it was fun. They eventually all ran back into the trees. Three more does plus the original six are now feeding back out. I am really hoping his big brother or daddy shows up. They were definitely in range of the 350 legend. Fingers crossed.

Good Luck! The rut should be on down there, especially with that big front that just came through.

I will be back out next weekend. I know there are a lot of really experienced whitetail hunters but this was the first time I actually saw and heard a buck grunting. What can I say…I am a simple elk hunter from the intermountain region who has been displaced by work, (less then 3 years until I retire) who is having a blast hunting south eastern whitetail.

We are full of timber rattlers down in Lowndes County. But only in the early season. I dont see many after Thanksgiving.
The cottonmouths are *thick* over by White Hall. Always wanted to turkey hunt over there but never found a suitable, full-body suit of snakeproof chaps.

They stopped making full body armor quite sometime ago. Got used to snakes hunting in South and South Central Florida for 30 years. I always did one hunt in big timber in Southern Ohio every year. I still was looking down at the ground every step I took. Never stepped over a blown down tree. Habit I guess.

Soggy day here today with major temp change tomorrow morning. I didn’t get out hunting this morning but did see a huge deer in the area I hunt. I dropped my son off at a swim meet then went to see if anything was out before hunting this afternoon. Of course with no gun, I saw a huge deer. I am set up about 800-900 yards west of where he spooked this morning. I am on a field edge where I have been seeing 5-10 does every night. It’s 56° with a 5 MPH WNW wind and 88% humidity.

I already have does out in the field within range. They keep looking back so I am hoping a big buck shows up tonight. The double main beam buck I was after was killed. IMG_1343.jpegIMG_1345.jpegIMG_1344.jpeg

I can hear a buck grunting to my south in the trees but I can’t see him. The does are out in the middle of the field now, about 90 yards away. Great live bait!

Ok. Buck came out…almost shooter 8. He came in down wind of me and the does were spooked off a bit. They are sitting @130 now. He was almost a shooter and similar to the buck I got last year. I had a doe he was chasing go behind me a blow for about 2 min.
