Well…I figure I would start another Alabama deer thread. Last year ended well so…into 2024.

The rut really gets going here in late January and into the first week or so of February (peaks is around February 10th or so).

It has been slow so far but I have seen one really nice buck.

IMG_1195.jpegThese are from my first sit of the year. And the next are from my first morning. I am only seeing singles and doubles so far. A few new areas have opened so I have high hopes for the season.

These are from my first morning sit. I really love coffee in a tree stand.

IMG_1206.jpegThese are from a new area. It’s a great travel zone and I had three doe come by earlier. This time of year is more about getting my gear ready for next month.

IMG_1223.jpegIMG_1222.jpegIMG_1224.jpegThere is a storm coming in tonight so if the rain quits as planned I will be back out tomorrow afternoon.

Good Luck! I didn't get to come home to hunt this year like I do every year due to deployment. I hunt down in Pickens and Perry County. Planning to retire and head back that way in 2026.

I hunted at my lease and camp near Greenville ( Lowndes County) for the opening of the rifle season.

I hunt doe that first trip. I shot one. It started warming up so I cut my hunt a few days short and headed on to Ohio for Thanksgiving and hunting the week after.
Shot a doe up there as well.

I am spending Christmas in NC with my family and then heading straight to Alabama for a week right after Christmas thru the New Year holiday. I will probably shoot a few does to get the freezer filled up and get ready focus on bucks later in January thru the Feb 10th. I will likely spend 14-20 days up there during the rut.

Good luck

I might be a little crazy! I am back in the saddle again…figuratively and literallyI am in a new area and have what I like to call a Hunt Talk 350 legend tonight. Howa rifle, Leupold scope and Hammer hand loads.

The new area is a heavy travel zone about 600-800 yards from where I saw the big buck. It was supposed to stop raining around 12:00. I am in the tree in an absolute down poor. I hope deer start moving when this passes. 20-30 minutes acording to radar.

One doe per day, regardless of archery or rifle season, and up to three antlered bucks per season. Believe that means an enterprising fella could legally knock down 121 (!!!) deer in a season.
