The Lewis and Clark National Forest has confirmed to Montana Public Radio that a Single Engine Air Tanker working the 450 acre Horse Gulch Fire south of York crashed today.

Reports at this time are that this fire was human caused.

If that is so, somewhere out there, the individual who started this likely knows that they did. If they have a single atom of conscience, they should be overwhelmed with guilt and shame.

This is the mindset I can't get my head around. I have a few places I go to pick up brass where folks shoot on NF land near me. I also pick up all the crap they leave laying there. Pretty sad sometimes. mtmuley

Pilot died, she was 45 years old. Sounds like it was a mechanical issue. A couple tourists witnessed the crash and ignored it until a sheriff’s deputy came by looking for the wreckage.

Friend of mine lives in the vicinity of this fire. Called him this morning to find out how close.
He said a quarter mile.

We are well into fire season. I have a "Watch Duty" app on my phone for the 4 counties around us. There were 4 new alerts just this morning. Best thoughts to all of the firefighters that are willing to give their lives to protect us. So very sad to hear that another hero has died in the line of duty.
