Anyone reloading and hunting with 9.3x62? I have some 240gn power hammers I haven't loaded yet. I'm new to copper bullets. Steve from hammer was very helpful giving me loading data.

My concern lies in the slower velocity of 9.3x62 and the copper bullet impacting at 300 yards or less.

Bigger Black bear and Elk are my focus.
I'm also interested in the 242gn HHT and 250 gn E tips if anyone has loaded these in 9.3x62 and has taken game.

With the numbers I see, 2500 puts you at 1800 at 300. So right on the edge. Some of the user submitted data shows muzzle velocities up to 2800, which is an even better buffer.

I would go with ideas Steve gave you for starting points.

You'll be fine

I've killed antelope, deer, elk and moose with mine, but never used a solid copper. Hornady soft points, Norma Oryx and Nosler Accubonds. It's a fun cartridge!

Carl, Hornady are usually always available, never shot the oryx, accubond availability is hit or miss, this is why I was going to entertain hammers. Where do you get your Oryx?

Unfortunately they don't sell the oryx in the US anymore, I loved the 232g load. I got super lucky and bought 10 boxes of loaded accubonds, $40 each, on Nosler's shooters pro shop website (thanks to someone on here, can't remember who).

Awesome cartridge with a lot of history. Relatively mild recoil compared to what others believe

Nice, post a pic! I just have factory CZ550. View attachment 355182
Gorgeous rifle, I have its twin in a .257 Ackley.

@Schutzhund I've not loaded Hammers in the 9.3 but I have in several other cartridges and have been very pleased with velocity and accuracy. Steve has a post on his HammerTime forum that describes his method for working up loads with Hammers in cartridges without published Hammer-specific data. Worth a look. My experience has been that Hammers tend to like a faster burning powder relative to normal for a given cartridge and that they like to be pushed toward the top end of the velocity window for optimal accuracy.
