6.5 CM as a hunting cartridge... why?

My dad and plenty of others were shooting elk and deer with a 220 Swift in the 1960s. There is nothing new, it just comes back around like bell bottom jeans.

All of my family in northeast Montana were big .220 swift and .22-250 fans for deer and elk. Hardly a new trend. The .22-250 is pretty much the only rifle my grandpa hunted deer with for as long as I can remember.

There are some 130 class lead pills that are still decent in that regard as well. A 130 TMK, ELDm, AR hybrid, etc.

No warning label needed, its just that low BC, modest velocity monos is not an appealing combo. Doesn't mean it wouldn't kill stuff fine.

At reasonable distances of course. It just really lost it's novelty to me when I realized most of the advantages were lost without the conventional 140's+ Add to that they didn't shoot particularly well in any of my guns (the 100's and 120 monos shot great however).

My 82-year-old Dad has gone to killing just about everything with his 22-250, to the point I was surprised when he told me he killed last year's bull with his 338 win mag.

What qualifies as “older”? I “cling” onto one 22-250 but sold a couple others. I’ve a preference to the .223 in all scenarios though. Had an infatuation with a 25-06..

hey, I cling to a pre-64 Win 30-30, but I'm not gonna try and convince anyone it's better than their .308 either.

It's going to be real funny someday when I recall a time when the 6.5 CM was new, and had a huge following.
