5 things about you.

1. Led an operation to retake one of Alexander the Great's Citadels from a large group of modern days jihadists, that were probably the descendants of the same people Alex fought on his way through AFG. It was crazy to think about how many times blood had been shed in that place the previous 2335 years... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herat_Citadel
2. Ate dinner in one of Bin Laden's Houses.
3. Bought the MT Governor's Mountain Goat Tag, and hunted it completely DIY.
4. Through work have met a lot of famous people and some really bad people.
5. Used to shoot archery competitively, and when I was 14, I beat every pro at a leg of the IBO triple in a side competition that was the test bed for what became the Buckmaster's (head to head popup 3d bracket tournament).
#2 Do ya mean a MRE? it still counts.

If my dad had met John Wayne, he probably would have spit on him. Hated the guy. Dad was a disabled vet who served in the South Pacific theater as a surgical tech piecing together wounded. His brother Uncle Bob was an artillery officer also South Pacific. Other brother Frank was in Europe retaking Italy and France. Meanwhile John Wayne was busy using his connections to dodge the draft. Disgusting how that clown wrapped himself in patriotism. Took some balls for him to take that role in Green Berets. He freely admitted he stole his signature gait from Tom Mix. Laughed about it. A phony through and through.
Good thing your dad never met John Wayne or you would never have been born…

1. Shook former president Clinton's hand.

2. Played against Eddie Feigner and got a solid hit off of him.

3. Union chairman for wage employees at the *xx** refinery.

4. Played king of the hill on WWII bomb shelters in Great Britain while growing up.

5. Can get 7 pull ups with a 45# plate on a belt at coming 72 years old. Well, the last rep maybe not all the way up.

1) I've non-competitively completed a bunch of races including a 40mi ski race over mountain passes over 12k that starts at midnight and is harder than it sounds, a trail running marathon, a bunch of half marathons, and a handful of skate ski half marathons and one full marathon.
2) I've summited via rock climbing and ski mountaineering a smattering of notable and non-notable mountains all over the world. Some of my favorites include the Diamond, Spearhead, a bunch of peaks in the Winds, Patagonia, Half Dome, Cathedral, Rainier, Gannett, Granite, Whitney.
3) I spent 8 weeks in college at NASA Johnson Space Center working on designs for the Lunar Ascent Module.
4) I was arrested once while dressed as a 3D bridge
5) I surfed the longest wave in Africa (sidenote I'm a terrible surfer) known as the "spliff wave" because you could allegedly roll a joint and smoke it for how long this wave was.

Bonus fun fact - I was attacked by a wombat in Australia.

5 is really impressive. I hope I can do 7 without the plate at your age.

I got back into the gym 7 years ago. Sadly, when I tried to do a pull up, not even one, anymore.

Strength training has certainly extended my career as a hunter. I was aways pretty good at pull ups when younger, still am, I guess.

I'm sure that is a rare occurrence. I remember when Clinton was President, they interviewed 1000 women in Washington D.C. and asked them if they would have sex with Bill, and 98% of them said "never again".

Bill is a scoundrel, no doubt. There is no record of him paying hush money to porn stars, so there is that.

This thread isn’t about your negative feelings about John Wayne. I’m not a big fan of his movies myself but I can appreciate the fact that he took the time to hand the young man a second beer and wish him well when he realized he was going into the Navy. I don’t know why you feel the need to take a contrarian stance on nearly everything.
The point being was Wayne actually serious about his "patriotism" in this incident? Or was it more acting? His cowardice was pretty much a secret. I don't mind outing him. I answered the call and paid the price. As did my dad. Sorry, but I just have no use for actors (or presidents) who continue to act the ultra patriot role after refusing to live it when the country, indeed the world, needed them to take up arms. But I guess that's just me. At least Jane Fonda has expressed regret for her actions ... sorta.

As an NPS ranger I came in contact with many celebrities. Had lunch once with Feinstein (I thought it was with Pelosi but a former coworker recently corrected me on that). I didn't know who she was when I sat down. It was an empty seat. We had a nice visit ... until my boss swooped in with a crowd of brown nosers. Mickey Rooney came into the Klondike Museum in Seattle one day. He is so obviously himself but I left him alone. It was a very quiet day and we almost had the place to ourselves. Finally he came over and proceeded to act a role. He spoke the perfect Aussie accent, declaring himself to be a stand-in for Rooney in a horse movie being filmed in the area. He actually wanted to chat for quite a while. I pretended to buy into it. Next day he came back in with props: a bunch of Australian coins (which were very cool, each with beautiful images of animals). He gave them to me. Then the third day he returned again, this time confessing to his true identity. "Did I fool ya?" Oh of course. We had a good laugh. Nice guy. As I said, usually if I ran into celebrities, I left them alone. They don't come to the park to be bothered by fans and groupies. They're there to see the park.
