RUMs do seem to be result of cartridge competition probly more the hunters need for them. But when you ard shopping for a longer range setup the RUMs cheaper nonbelted brass are hard to turn down.

The RUM isn't and wasn't cartridge competition. When it was available in 1999, the big Weatherby was the only readily available big .30 cal besides the RUM. In a readily available rifle and ammo tandem that is. Lots of big stuff out there these days.
