Thanks to all on this forum for the info and advice leading up to my first Western hunt! My buddy and I made the drive from Minnesota and arrived in Gillette on Sept 29th, set up camp, and started scouting. Our other friend drove up from Colorado that day, and we got the lay of the land and found some nice bucks near public land. On opening morning, we woke up to a light rain and a lot of hunters driving around. 2 hours into the day, I found a buck bedded about 80yds from the road in a little strip of public. He wasn't the biggest buck, but I couldn't resist for my first lope (not knowing what chances we would have later in a unit with limited public land). Later that day, my friend got a 73" lope with a 380yd double lung shot. We completed the trifecta the next afternoon, when my friend connected on a 200yd shot for another nice lope.
We had an amazing trip, and needless to say we are officially addicted to antelope and western hunting. I can't wait til next year!
