270 Weatherby, yea or neigh?

Nothing against Roy, but the weatherby cartridges are unimpressive by modern standards/practices imho. Long free bore, short head height, etc. Theres a reason there are PRCs and win mags going in weatherby rifles.

Would still own one - but im more of a mark v fan than a weatherby cartridge fan.
The long headspace is there for a reason.
With Roy setting the pressure higher than the other cartridges of the time, he resorted to the old trick of managing the pressure. Increasing freebore.

If you look at the SAAMI drawing of the 284 Win, it also has a long freebore.
This was because it was chambered originally in their lever and semi auto actions.

Bear in mind that these were created back in the 1940 & 1950s.

For all the computing power that we have now, quite frankly it's the Creedmoor and PRC lines that dissapoint.
