24 moose

Early on we are spotting moose.
The kid spots a very nice bull. Its across a drainage, working its way up hill. He and our young hunter are off. Its misty raining.
Nearly a mile hike. They went into the trees Brush thrashing, with bull grunts.

Rained the rest of that day, and woke early to more of the same. Soon a bull is spotted with a cow. He's messing with her, but she's dancing around him. Impertech rain gear on and I'm off, slipping and sliding down the muddy trail. I could see them on the opposite hillside at 700 yards, before I Cross the drainage. I worked my way up hill. Hiking through heavy brush, in rain gear, is one of my least favorite chores.
It took awhile, but found him! 300 yards bedded, could just see white palms between the spruce trees. No cow. Brush here is head high. Back tracking a bit, I moved to another higher vantage point. Glassing the trees, cow is looking my direction. The bull is up and looking from behind a spruce. Since they are aware somethings up, I held up my calling scapula. Hes a big boy, I'm trying get brow tines. The cow breaks into a run and the bull spins and follows. Down hill through the trees and into the thick stuff. Gone! Sometimes the scapula will allow us to "dance with the bulls". In hind site that cow kept slapping that boy down, and now a second bull to deal with?
