2024 Whitetail Season (South Carolina) for WNC2500 and family (Live hunt)

11/4/24: Saw a large racked 8 pointer driving in this AM in the dark. Saw a doe at daybreak, and a button buck around 8:30. Both were small deer. Rain started around 8:30 and did not stop. It has since stopped and I am thinking deer will be moving this evening. Barometric pressure 30.28

11/4/24 PM: Barometric pressure was 30.30. Temperature was 65. Got into the stand at around 3pm. Dad decided to sit where I did on Saturday night and overlook the area full of rhododendrons. 5pm a small doe came from my right and walked by me. She is too small, and not one I want to hang a tag on. The woods felt extremely "deery" but nothing seen until right before shooting light. I heard movement behind me and looked over my right shoulder. A very large doe was 10 yards below me. Before I knew it, she was 30 feet away to my left. I put the gun up on her and could still see her fine in the scope. But, as was looking at her in the scope, she was looking over her shoulder. I took my eyes out of the scope and noticed a buck was close. He was more of less "tending" her. She was not being chased by him. I put the crosshairs on him and squeezed the trigger. He dropped instantly. Neck shot.

11/10/24: Saw a small fawn walking in this evening. Rain went from drizzling to steady rain. No deer seen this evening except as I was driving out in the dark (when I saw 6 does). Dad and I are hunting in the AM. It is supposed to be wet until around 8am and then break off for a couple days. It has yet to be cold enough in my opinion to get the deer all fired up.

11/11/24: Walked in and the woods were quiet from the rain last night. Barometric pressure was 30.02. Temperature was 58 degrees. Saw a small yearling doe before sunlight as well as a large doe that came to my right underneath my stand. Ended up seeing the fox before 8am. Nice wide 6 point came in around 8:05. Another taller buck around 8:45. Fox came back around at 9am.

The story: Small doe came under me at around 7:10. Meanered around browsing and then took offf and ran 10 yards behind me. Momma looped over to her. Both are behind me. I look to my left and see movement. It’s a buck and I see horns but a good bit of his head is blocked. Give him time but my feet are baby stepping 90 degrees in my climber. He starts walking and I see he is a nice buck and one of the nice deer I’ve seen while hunting. He is walking slowly…I get my scope on an opening. When he enters the opening, I squeeze off the trigger. He donkey kicks and takes off. Time of shot was 7:16am.

I give him 30 minutes then climb down. The Waldo pic was what I saw at the first blood spot when I looked around.
