No they're involved to put butts (revenue) in the bleachers by securing and keeping superior athletic talent...that's it.

Contracts that bind players to playing in bowl games aren't going to be signed by the players who have any shot at going to the NFL.
Maybe it'll be more of a per-game paycheck payment structure, but I don't see (smart) players signing deals to that force them to play in the Meinike Car Care Bowl or the Boca Raton Bowl and risk injury when if they have the opportunity to pursue a career in the NFL in a few short months.
