I think the body size up here does indeed throw many off that are used to viewing speeders from down South, such as Arizona/New Mexico perhaps?

They really aren't much bigger in the literature published on the subject, 155 vs maybe 145lbs max (Bergmann's rule having trouble overcoming population bottlenecks 100 years ago) Ears are short because of Allen's rule, which makes them look longer and more massive than they are. Only a couple B&C bucks in the book in the last decade from Alberta. Where is Eli Grimmet to give us his thoughts?

We only have approx 12- 20,000 antelope that live a ptn of their life in our province, some spend ample time in Sasky and Montana on the migrations. I have always been told that its a huge difference in body size as you go south, similar to the increase in size as you go North due to the harsher environments.
he is my target buck at this time, things could change though....

interesting numbers I have been told in the past:
there are more wt in Texas than all of Canada
there are more Elk in NM than all of Canada
Our antelope prairie landscape is reduced to the very S/SE corner of our Province, hence the low numbers that it can handle.

Would believe it about the whitetails, but that's partly a product of Texas's size as a state. There are probably several states with a higher WT density than Texas. If I had to guess anyway

I did a tour through the spot the big guy lives yesterday and I could see him and his harem about 1 mile off the road. No chance for pics this time, but good to know where he is and I hope he stays off the road from now til then.....

I hunted 3 days last week to start the year with my 11 yr old as my decoy specialist.
First day had us looking for our buck, and after some work we found him. tried to decoy him twice but no luck as he was by himself and wasn't interested what so ever.
Expanded our search and still havent found a bigger one so we went back and after a couple more failed attempts we left him be for next week when we are out there.
Best part was running into ten bull elk and sneaking within 80 yds before they heard us crawling through the grass and bolted. My kid thought that was awesome!
My buddy also missed a 180-190' Mule buck on the first day by sending an arrow over its back at 55 yds from the top of a steep coulee. he used his 40 pin and still missed..... man was he upset.
heading back Friday of this week for another 6 day hunt.

the buck above i had within 50 yds 5 times in two days and turned him down every time.
he wont get turned down if that happens on the last few days of the hunt..

Boy the only way I'd pass on any of those bucks spot & stalk archery was if I could hunt the rifle season too. Wishing oyu the best of luck.

Well it was a long and tough hunt. I put in ten days on the prairies with my bow and had a blast doing it. Hunted hard, ate great and slept hard. Got my target buck within 62 yds once and he blew off to 80 when i drew my bow and no shot. My buddy ended up killing the buck posted above that i had turned down 5 times. When i seen him up close i knew I had made a big mistake in judgement. He was a 75-76" goat......

While my tag ended on the Saturday, I had a buddy that had a rifle tag for the same unit opening on the following Monday. We decided to bring our 12 yr old boys for the hunt and took them out of school for the day. We had hopes of finding Pronger or another buck I called Star trek but when we pulled in to the area, there was 5 trucks already there....
We moved a mile over and ended up walking into a hidden bowl i knew well from my time there. Pronger sometimes would settle here when traffic on the road was high so I was taking a risk. We walked approx. 300 yds from the truck and bam in front of us at 800 yds is Star trek feeding by himself. We moved slowly as a group and got to within 350 yds and my buddy made a great shot and he was down.
I had seen this buck 3 times in ten days. Every time I seen him was when I was away from the truck and no chance for a live pic. the one time him and Pronger squared off and did a few circles of each other, but they never actually did fight. I called him star trek because his horns looked like a space ship with the tops turned in and his prongs splayed out from the front view. They looked similar but i'm guessing Pronger would score better due to the curl on top and mass.
