My hunting partner and I hiked over 100 miles in 10 days to finally find a ram I really liked. We were backpacked in when I spotted this guy at the top of the mountain doing what rams do. A lengthy and tricky stalk put me on my 6.5 creedmoor at 400yds waiting for him to stand. I rested my head on the ground being calm and focused and only 30 seconds when Aaron tells me he's standing up. My rest was solid and I watched the 143gr ELDx impact through the sope that dropped him in his tracks and keeping him from rolling off the 300ft cliff.
There I sat filling my once in a lifetime desert bighorn sheep tag. You're dam straight I shed some tears. Multiple times in fact. What a feeling. I lack the words to describe what the sensation of the adventure and my one and only regret is I'll only be an observer from here on out.
I owe a ton thanks to my buddy Aaron for the commitment he made to helping me fill my tag and making a dream come true. As well I extend a thanks to the rest my support crew that helped behind the scenes or made it out camp for the few days they could. A very special thank you to both our wives for letting us chase our dreams and be gone for multiple weeks straight. This post isn't possible without their commitment to our passions.
I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity and success with filling my tag and will remember the adventure for the rest of my life.
Hunting the Cabeza Prieta wilderness is an adventure to say the least. This ram was a monarch and is everything I was dreaming for since the day I drew the tag.
