2017 Turkey's ....so far!

Haven't posted anything in a bit...2017 has been a good year so far. Got it done in Kansas x 2 and then back home and got it done the 2nd morning on a 25#, 11in beard, 1 1/2 spurs...not my best, but real close! I also got to shake the hand of a guy I consider a friend, even if it is only online here Kansasdad. He got me headed in the right direction for hunting Kansas birds, and I'll never be able to say thanks enough. I'm off to Michigan tomorrow for a couple days to see if I can call in some birds for a couple of newbs...and maybe for me!!!

...and it ends well for 2017!

wrapped up my 2017 turkey season calling for a couple of my buddies on their very first turkey hunt. I enjoy calling for friends almost as much as shooting them myself, so, when I got the invite...it was a no brainer for me! We had Friday evening through Sunday morning to get it done ...we got set up the first evening and before long 3 hens and 2 gobblers headed our way. I was ranging them as they headed in and giving instructions..." ok, then 1st hen is at 40yds..keep letting them come in" ..."Ok Chris..get ready we may be able to pull the double here" 2 seconds later BANG..flop! Birds going everywhere. He says " man my heart was beating out of my chest, how come you didn't shoot"? I didn't even have my gun up...He says " I thought when you said get ready we were shooting" I just laughed and gave him a high five! Not 5 minutes go by and BANG I hear my other buddy shoot..then got a text that said "smoked him". These guys were beside themselves, and grinning ear to ear. That left Wes and I to get it done in a day and a half. We both passed on several chip shots at jakes the next day, but no gobblers showed up. I said " Sunday, those jakes are back on the menu" They all laughed, I said I'm serious...if I tag one here that will be 5 states for me. Well Sunday rolled around and we were planning on leaving at 10am so we could get back for Mothers day stuff...at 7am I had 4 hens and a jake in front of me...at 830am I crumbled under pressure and took the jake. It was a great Spring, spent with great friends!!! Come on Fall!
