2015 Idaho Goat tag (Most viewed post ever)

Congrats to your kid and his first elk! Looking forward to some pics of a white beast with a red spot behind the shoulder!

Thanks for the Kind words about my Boys hunt. He's still excited about it.

Hopefully I get everything packed up tonight that I'll need for a long weekend. Tomorrow evening, IDBugler will bless me with a trip into the back country for a few days. I'm finger crossing we'll get into something. Either way, there will be a story to tell. We usually do OK on our trips.

....Knocking on wood, catch you next week.

I think it's going to happen this trip! IDB always brings you good luck....or skill. Either way the goats should be shaking in their hooves.

Tis true Amigo, Bugler has a way to bring "luck" and make things happen. Things happened this weekend for sure.

8000 Page Views Only ? Dang..... I'm not even on the top 2 pages..... But I will be. :)

I have to compile some pictures and catch back up in life but this was the Scene leaving on Wednesday for the long weekend hunt. A typical Moosie Adventure. Arctic Circle shake, Burger, Fries, and about $300 worth of snacks from Walmart when we went in just to get batteries.

That happens to me also.
Go in for 1 item you need and end up your budget weekend trip cost $100 at the store and $100 in fuel.

I’ve wanted to hunt goats forever. Since chasing my Idaho Big Horn Ram to hunting Tahr and Chamois in New Zealand. So as you can tell by the other posts I didn’t get in scouting much…. Or at all really. Unless you’ve been to the Frank Church Wilderness of NO Return.. or what us spiritual people like to call the “CHURCH”, you don’t appreciate how big and what a time commitment it is to drive there and start hiking.

I definitely wasn’t in shape to hike in were I needed to go but I went in with “LT” who is a bad a$$ then this last trip with IDBugler who’s been living in the hills lately. He was able to get his elk, and his boys critters out of the way so this last weekend opened up for him to go with me. I know that in October every day is like a bar of gold to a hunter and I appreciated him wanting to come up.

We joke a lot about “man crushes” and no doubt I have many a “man crush”, if that’s what you want to call it on several hunters. HuntTalk has probably the country’s most elite hunters and I’ve been fortunate enough to hunt with a lot of the super stars. I can tell you I wouldn’t have gotten my goat this time without Buglers help. I can look back at my Sheep hunt with T-Bone and many other hunts I’ve been on with friends.
We left later than we wanted but it seems like that’s the case usually. We stopped into Walmart to snag some grub and a fast food place to snag a burger and fries.

Since we got there late we opted to sleep in the back of the truck. No sense setting up a tent for only a couple hours sleep. Thinking ahead we brought some comfy bags and with the weather unseasonably warm and dry it was a good call.

Glassing is the key to most successful hunts. The older and more out of shape I get I realize that. I wish I would have done more of that when I was in better shape. It’s a deadly combination. Every year we get better at stuff I guess. We had more optics than the average hunter. Spotting scopes and bino’s on tripods and hand held bino’s. It’s amazing how more you can see by putting your Bino’s on a tripod.
