2015 Idaho Goat tag (Most viewed post ever)

Hopefully he can return the favor this weekend. Things usually die when you guys get after it.

Leaving tonight. A buddy of mine is going with. Going to spend 2 nights on the hill with some Goats. Don't be envious.......

Good luck Moosie. I thought IDBugler could just throw a whole elk over his shoulder and pack it out by himself!?! Guess we're all getting older, haha.

Sounds like a "Brokeback" sequel in the making...
Yeah, I honestly was a bit concerned when I signed on to this gig, especially since he kept using the word "cuddle" beforehand. :D Note to others who might someday backpack hunt with Moosie the Great... bring extra (1) water (2) TP (3) food. I discovered he doesn't believe in carrying that non-essential stuff.

Of course he wants you to bring enough for him too? :)

Water is over rated. Look how much you had to give to me to drink to lighten your pack.

Our trip went well. I'll type more when I get a chance but we did see some goats. I spotted one that I wanted to go after but it was a log ways off. We were never close enough to any of the goats to get a good picture. I have a couple I'll upload though tomorrow.

I get made fun of for not having food, water or toilet paper but I had the Apparel...

The Hunting God's even gave me a compliment by showing it appreciated my alternative hiking shoes.

We did see some goats that trip but none up close. Look at this goat "Clilaxin'":

It was with a few others :

Here was a goat I took a picture of about 2 miles away. Hard to get a good picture at that distance :

The goat came in from the right, we tried from the left. Unfortunately it didn't work out.

The good news is I got to catch a nap in the hills.....

Nothing "SMALL" in this country :

I'd like to get it done, But dang things keep getting in the way. In addition to helping Bugler pack out his Stud elk we've had Dove hunting for the kids. Anyone thats been around knows I have 4 boys and a little girl. This year is my 3rd Oldests turn "Parker". He was able to get out and lay the hammer on some doves :

Then this last weekend I skipped Goat once again to take him on his first Elk hunt. It was a great huntand I have some Video I'll upload later in the week/months/year ;)

But we had a great short hunt and he laid the hammer down. It started off like all good Moosie Hunts with a Trip to McDonalds :

We got there the first night and heard a bugle. We set up and kept looking :

We saw the elk start coming out. First one cow.... then 2 more, but no Bulls :

Finally, as it got darker, the Bull came out. I figured it to be a 3x4 but it was getting dark. The distance was to far to close the gap but I got in a picture :

That night there were bugles around camp and Parker slept through it all. First hunt and he was tiered. In addition to the bugles around 1:30AM the rain started hitting the tent and didn't lay off. The next morning we were a little damp and it's hard to get out of bed on a crappy day. But we had limited time :

One ridge over we saw 4 elk. I was pretty sure that bull was one of them. We drove around and started hiking towards them and got as close as we could and set up :

Set up the spotter.....made sure he was well rested and steady and waited a few minutes.

With a line up and a bang, it was all over.

Happy first elk hunter. Got a nice elk for his first one. I shot many a spikes before I got my first branch antlered elk.

He didn't pack out much but he learned that there is a lot of work to do on an elk. He was one tiered Mo'Fo'.

But the freezer has some meat in it, and this weekend I have to work. But next weekend IDBugler is going in with me. If anyone thinks a goat has a chance with us 2 on the mountain they don't know anything about hunting !!!
