In Southern NY the whitetail & black bear season are concurrent. The only legal weapon for deer is a slug loaded shotgun. I will be hunting with Federal sabot rounds and would like to bag a bear if the opportunity presents itself.

Has anyone out there harvested a black bear with a 12 ga slug?

Any thoughts/info on this would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

I have seen many bears taken with 12 ga slugs.I think it is an excellent bear weapon at close range.I had a hunter shoot a nice bear a couple weeks ago, using a 12 ga slug.Shot it at 20 yards, one shot kill.

I shot one a couple years ago in steuben county with a 12 ga. Wasn't hunting for bear but season was open and the opportunity presented itself. used a 1 oz slug, 75 yards in the head. I know of several that have been shot with a 12 ga. Haven't heard anything bad about it. Good Luck.
