    Beginner-Roosevelt Elk Hunting

What might be incorrect regarding my below research on what elk will be eating, November, coastal Oregon (e.g. Siuslaw National Forest)? Grasses: If there has been sufficient rainfall, elk will graze on native grasses in meadows and forest openings. Forbs and shrubs: Broadleaf plants (forbs)...

Are designated Wilderness Areas legal for hunting elk in Oregon? I'm currently looking at Unit 18, which for example contains Cummins Creek Wilderness, Rock Creek Wilderness, and Drift Creek Wilderness. When using the link below to try to find the answer, none of those areas pull after a...

    Wisconsin Youth... His first!

Love to see the 6.8 SPC in use. I have one, will never sell it. Started with 110 Pro Hunters, then to 85 TSX, settled on 95 TTSX.

How many have hunted the west with a single shot rifle?

That's good to know. I was in the dark one evening in the TN mountains packing up from an evening sit for wild boar, and flipped on a light when I heard something approaching about 40 yards. Except it was a black bear at 10 years, coming right to me. We had two mirrored, full cycles of...

    An AR- Question

Agreed. My AR in 6.8 SPC is one of only two hunting rifles that are my go-to's. I can't quite keep it to "one rifle man," status, but I've so far kept it to two (not counting eh, a little .22 LR which everyone needs :) )

    Barnes 270/6.8 110 TSX

I looked up some of my loads; for 95 grain TTSX in .277, was at 27.8-28.0 grains of Reloder RL7 when I started showing signs of pressure in my LWRC M6A2.

    New AR Build Caliber

My LWRC M6A2 in 6.8SPC is wonderful as well. 1" groups or better, near zero recoil, with Barnes TSX's a killing machine... do recommend :)

Stuff you don't like for no good reason

I had to get my .375 Ruger Alaskan electroless nickel coated (Robar, R.I.P., did an amazing job), because it began to rust on it's first trip to Alaska, but otherwise/after that I love the thing. 1" groups or less, good to 300 yards any day of the year, probably more if I practiced it...

    Mauser Caliber Ideas

My .375 Ruger is my go-to hunting rifle. Barnes TSX's, RL15, 1" groups or less when I'm up to the task. Averaging around 2725 FPS to my recollection; it's perfect for everything that isn't "true" long range (I'm good to go up to 300 yards at any time, could probably make 400 acceptable with...

It's unclear to me if you can or cannot buy an over the counter Oregon elk tag to rifle hunt without private land access already found... 1) If I buy "Elk - General Western Oregon Coast Second Season Tag" are there public units available for this? 2) Do these OTC ("General") tags disappear...
