Montanans how long since your last mule deer
Been 2 years. 2022. I’ve hunted Montana since 2015 and this is the largest, or close to largest, mule deer I’ve seen on public land. 5 years old. Region 3. Can someone explain the theory how getting a speck of dust or dirt in a tip inhibits expansion? Or how a damaged tip can? Ditching GoHunt
I commented on another thread asking GoHunt about this and never heard back. I was actually ready to switch to GoHunt this year as I thought it was a "smoother" app when I tried it 2 years ago. Some of the layers OnX had at the time weren't available on GoHunt. Looks like they have them now...- Big Sky Guy

There is a BMA type 2 there just east of Toston. It’s part of that same 16 mile LLC, which used to be Turner Enterprises. The elk and deer don’t really use those BMA pieces as it’s the lower stuff. How to monitor burns for potential future hunts?
Thanks! So looking at the severity layer, I presume red and probably yellow means the fire burned too hot to support natural re-veg?- Big Sky Guy

I've been disappointed in the burns I *thought* would be primo elk habitat. Link would be helpful @ForkieShooter Here is a picture of a 2021 fire taken this August 2024 and still looks like scorched earth/moon. Kinda depressing.- Big Sky Guy

Active fires and hunting, whats your thoughts?
If the forest area you are hunting is open, it should be safe. At least around here when a fire gets going USFS will close a large area around it. Distance doesn’t really dictate smoke so much as wind. We live and I hunt 25-30 miles south of a large fire this summer. The wind was...- Big Sky Guy

VERY cool Leupold......
Just another snow flake in the snowball of hunting tech in the past 70 or so years. I've pretty much used it all if legal where I hunt, but am aware of it's impact and how we are degrading hunting experiences IMO. Always in the name of recovering more wounded game or more "ethical" hunting...- Big Sky Guy

Should be illegal IMO. This tech is outta control. I can do the same with a drone, take a photo and then copy the geotag coordinates into OnX and it drops a pin. Can’t use drones to hunt same day as flying them, thankfully.- Big Sky Guy
